Best Lipstick Subscription Box:
Lip Monthly or Lipstick Junkie?
[JULY 2019]
My lipstick choices throughout the years have pretty much been reflective of the phases of my life. I went for bold, fun colors in my younger years and transitioned into more neutral, professional colors in my later years. So when I saw that there were two lipstick subscription boxes, I had to try them both out.
Lip Monthly has been around for awhile and offers lip products that are more likely to be classics and can be worn anywhere, on any day. Whereas the new contender Lipstick Junkie offers up more daring colors for the adventurous ladies (and gents) out there.Â
Let’s get to the Showdown!

The Play-By-Play
To determine pros and cons of each subscription box, we must first establish what they offer and what comes in each box.
Let’s take a look at the contenders:
Contender #1: Lip Monthly
- Floss. Lip Gloss in “LAX”
- Kab Lip Liner in “FUNFETTI”
- Bellavera Matte Liquid Lipstick in “WARM NUDE”
- Mannakadar Roll-On Shadow in “PIXIE”Â
Lip Monthly offers 4Â different subscriptions:Â
- 1 Month – $12.95/mo
- 3 Month – $37.35/every 3 mo
- 6 Month – $71.70/twice a yr
- Annual –Â $137.40/per yr
Each plan has a gift option as well.
*The 3 Month, 6 Month, and Annual plans don’t come with more products. It is just to save you a little money on each box, by investing in a plan that is more than a month.
Contender #2: Lipstick Junkie
Lipstick Junkie offers 3 different subscriptions:Â
- 1 Month – $18/mo
- 3 Month – $50/every 3 mo
- 6 Month – $95/twice a yr
There is no annual plan option for this box.
Each plan does have a gift option though.
*As is the case with Lip Monthly, the 3 Month and 6 Month plans don’t come with more products. It is just to save you a little money on each box, by investing in a plan that is more than a month.
ROUND 1
Sign-Up & Cancelling Process
Both were incredibly easy to sign up for and very transparent with the prices of each plan. Cancelling was just as easy as well.
LIP MONTHLY
One thing that may be a bit confusing, is when you receive your first box. It depends on when you signed up. If you sign up between the 1st-15th of the month, you’ll receive that month’s subscription box. If you sign up after the 15th of the current month (like I did), you will receive next month’s box on the 15th.
Example:
Sign-Up Date – Aug.1st
Box Ship Date – Aug.15th
OR
Sign-Up Date – Aug.16th
Box Ship Date – Sep.15th
*Remember to use code 25OFF for 25% off your 1st box when you do sign up!
As far as cancelling, you just log into your account and cancel. If you decide to try their service again, you can reactivate it later without having to go through the sign-up process.
LIPSTICK JUNKIE
Same thing with signing up for Lipstick Junkie, it was very easy.Â
*Remember to use code LIP5 to get your 1st box for only $5 when you sign up!
Cancelling with Lipstick Junkie was simple, just log into your account and click a button. While they don’t have the option to pause your subscription, they give you the ability to reactive later as well, just like Lip Monthly. In my opinion, this is a better option than pausing anyway.
Winner: Lipstick Junkie
Even though there were no major differences between each of the box’s sign-up and cancelling processes, Lipstick Junkie wins this round due to the savings on their box with their discount code.
ROUND 2
Value & Quality
Both boxes offer full-sized products, so no skimpy sample sizes. Other than that similarity, I saw the biggest differences between the boxes in this round. The value provided in these 2 boxes should definitely be considered.
LIP MONTHLY
I got four lip products in my July box. I liked all four items I received. The Bellavera matte nude lipstick was a shade I don’t already have in my collection. I know you’re probably thinking:
"How many shades of nude can there be?"
Speaking as someone who has at least 10+ different nude lippies, I could tell this one was different. I can retire some of my others, as the one from this box is probably my favorite nude at the moment.
Lip Monthly also threw in a 3-in-1 roll-on shadow that can be used as eyeshadow, a highlight, or on your lips. It was nice to have a variety of lip products and not just 4 lipsticks, like I thought I would get.
The maximum items you will receive in the 1-Month box is 5 products. Looking at past boxes, the average is around 4 items.
The retail value of all the products I received was about $61 if I had purchased these items separately. So, technically I saved about $48 by buying the Lip Monthly box instead.
As far as quality, there were no damaged items and all of the products seemed of high-quality.
LIPSTICK JUNKIE
You are supposed to get 3 – 4 lip products in this box. I was pretty happy with my items. Although, I didn’t care for the application of the Luna lip crayon.
I did receive less items from this box than my Lip Monthly subscription. I essentially paid $5 more a month for less products. Retail price of all items in this box was about $45. Less than Lip Monthly as well.
Quality was good, and no damaged items.
Winner: Lip Monthly
Although I loved the Bellavera lipstick I got, my favorite lipstick of the entire haul was actually the Phase Zero color in the Lipstick Junkie box. So I went back and forth with whether or not quantity of the products I received in the Lip Monthly box provided more value to me. I figured I’d get more use out of my Lip Monthly box which is why I went with them as the Round 2 winner. Also, Lipstick Junkie is overall just more expensive for how many items you get.
ROUND 3
Overall Experience
Both boxes provided a great experience. Enough to get me excited about lipstick again. There was one hiccup with Lipstick Junkie though, that allowed Lip Monthly to pull ahead in this Showdown.
LIP MONTHLY
I had a pleasant experience with this box. No shipping issues and I can see myself using these products in the future.
LIPSTICK JUNKIE
Shipping was an issue with this box. My box was set to ship on the 5th, but I got an email from the company stating that shipping of everyone’s box had to be pushed back.Â
This pushed back the renewal date as well. I didn’t mind too much, but it may have been a problem for other people.
I also took a look at last month’s box and was a bit disappointed that I hadn’t signed up earlier. The June box had some fun looking holographic lippies that I would’ve loved to try out. Don’t wait until you see what the past boxes had and be hesitant to try, because the FOMO is real!
Winner: Lip Monthly
Simply because I didn’t have any problems at all with my Lip Monthly box. Shipping was the only con against Lipstick Junkie this round.
VERDICT
Worth It?
BOX I WOULD REPURCHASE / KEEP
I would more than likely keep Lip Monthly. There was more variety and more lip products. The lippies I received are best for daily wear and I would only use the lipsticks from Lipstick Junkie on special occasions.
Overall Winner: Lip Monthly
I still recommend either box to suit whatever your needs are. So if you decide on one, here’s what you should consider when choosing:
Consider LIP MONTHLY if:
You’re more into neutral or everyday wearable lip products. Lip Monthly is best for that. This box is good for career ladies, those getting trying to get into lipstick, or those looking for colors that work for any occasion.
Consider LIPSTICK JUNKIE if:
You have enough neutrals and want to spice up your lippie collection with more bold and exciting colors and are not afraid to try something different.
