Back-to-school shopping probably looks a little different this year, unfortunately. So having kids clothing subscription boxes like KidPik & Stitch Fix Kids, are not only a convenient way to shop for your kiddo, but can actually save you some money! Both KidPik & Stitch Fix Kids will send a box full of items for your child to try out before you buy.

I currently don’t have any children, but have been lucky to have a little sister who is both a joy and a handful all in one. She enjoys dressing up and getting new clothes, so I thought KidPik and Stitch Fix Kids would be an awesome opportunity for us to try. It was also time that she needed a closet update as she has grown so much over the year.

So, whether you’re looking to update your child’s closet, discover new styles and trends, or just want your little one to experience the magic of their own subscription box, these boxes can do that for you.

Let’s see which box wins this Showdown!

ROUND 1
Sign-Up & Cancelling

Signing up for both KidPik and Stitch Fix were an easy process. It’s always a fun time filling out style profile questions. You could always enlist the help of your child as well, in helping fill out their profile for a little extra fun for them.

KIDPIK

The sign-up process was simple. You have to create a sign on before being able to take the style quiz. This can be an email or Facebook login. They asked questions like:

  • Your child’s name and birthday.
  • What pieces of clothing you want/don’t want in their box.
  • Colors and patterns your child likes.
  • Size in tops, pants, and shoes.
  • What outfit combination styles your child likes or wears.
  • What fashion styles does your child like/wear (active, classic, glam, etc).
  • Level of sparkle (this was a cute question).

Once your subscription is activated by completing the style profile, the KidPik stylists will get your child’s first “pik” going. KidPik states that it could take up to 3 weeks to get your first pik styled and shipped out to you. They’ll send you an email with the tracking information of your KidPik box. This is where things got a little weird with the shipping. We checked on the tracking every so often and noticed that the shipping route was a bit strange. We live in Iowa and the box started in California, then played a game of Midwest hot-potato and went to Minnesota from there, then Wisconsin, Illinois, and finally to Iowa. Even so, it doesn’t seem like it affected the shipping time a lot, as we received our box in around 11 days.

CANCELLING

Cancelling was pretty simple as well, but there are options to skip, pause, or change the frequency of your KidPik account instead if you’d like to try it out again at some point. I wasn’t too concerned about cancelling, as I wouldn’t be out of any money if I forget to cancel and the subscription happens to renew.

RETURNING

When returning, you’ll go into your account and pick an option for each item of clothing. Select either keep, return, exchange, or donate. When finished, you’ll get a final receipt and a due date to return your items by (if you didn’t keep everything like we did).

*Remember to get your free $29 credit and 30% OFF (when you purchase the whole box) with code 50MEMORIAL when you try out KidPik today!

STITCHFIX KIDS

The sign-up process for Stitch Fix Kids was simple as well. They just asked more questions and it took a little longer. If you already have your own Stitch Fix account, you can go right into your account and add a kids profile to yours. Otherwise, you’ll create a new profile/sign on to take the style quiz. This can be an email or Facebook login. They asked things like:

  • Your child’s name and birthday.
  • What gender of clothing you’re looking for.
  • Your relationship to your child (mother, father, other).
  • What reasons are you wanting to try Stitch Fix Kids.
  • Examples of outfits that could be your child’s style.
  • Favorite color.
  • Brands you typically purchase for your child.
  • Which colors or prints should be avoided.
  • Which clothing features should be avoided (crop tops, exposed shoulders, etc.)
  • Can they send graphic tees and if so, what themes to send.
  • What activities your child does or rarely does.
  • Size in tops, pants, and shoes.
  • What body shape/build (slim, average, plus sized).
  • What clothing fit (slim/fitted, straight, loose).
  • How does your child most commonly dress (loves head-to-toe matched outfits or wears any pieces that look good together).
  • Does your child wear a uniform?
  • Any pieces of clothing or fabrics your child wouldn’t wear.
  • Price range of the items that get sent to you and if it’s ok to send items above this price sometimes.
  • Can link to a Pinterest board that showcases your child’s style.
  • Pick your subscription frequency or choose to schedule your own boxes when you want.

Additionally, you can add a note on your child’s style profile to better help the personal stylist. We said that we were looking for:

Easy slip-on canvas shoes and/or sandals. She loves unicorns. She's a girly girl who loves to wear dresses, skirts, and skorts. She likes decorative leggings/jeggings as well.

You can tell that the personal stylists actually read the notes you write. Rey (our personal stylist) was pretty spot on with sending us items we were looking for. Among some of the items, she sent a pair of slip-on sandals, a cute tie-dye unicorn shirt, floral leggings, and a dress.

CANCELLING

If you are signed up for “automatic deliveries”, then you can cancel or just skip your next delivery whenever you’d like. If you didn’t sign up for the auto shipments, then you won’t have to worry about cancelling or skipping, as you can just schedule your boxes when you want another one.

RETURNING

When returning, you’ll go into your account and pick an option for each item of clothing. Select either, keep, return, or exchange.

*Remember to get your $25 credit from the link below if you’d like to try out Stitch Fix Kids!

Winner: Stitch Fix Kids

There wasn’t a clear winner in this round as both shipping/returning processes were pretty equal. With that said, the option to schedule your boxes and the ability to write a note to your stylist, helped get Stitch Fix Kids the win on this one.

ROUND 2
Value & Quality

KIDPIK

  1.  Free Spirit Floral Tee (size L/12)
    $17.50 / *$9.48
  2.  Tiered Ruffle Top (size L/12)
    $16.50 / *$8.94
  3. Seamless Tank (size M-XXL/10-16)
    $7.50 / *$4.06
  4. Denim Pull On Bermuda Short (size L/12)
    $19.50 / *$10.57
  5. Lace Bodice Skater Dress (size L/12)
    $22.50 / *$12.19
  6. Metallic Knotted Headband (one size)
    $7.50 / *$4.06
  7. Baby Glitter Size Zip Sneaker (size 1 Youth)
    $34.50 / *$18.64

*Price after discount

The original total was $125.50, but I was able to get my first box for just $68 + tax when I bought the whole box. That’s a savings of $57!

KidPik states that, “after the 30% keep-all discount is applied, the average price of your child’s fashion box is just $95.00 (including shoes!) – or approximately $13.50 per item”. If I didn’t use a special discount, my box would’ve been valued at $88 with the guaranteed 30% off! That’s much lower than what they state as the average box price.

We decided to keep the whole box, so the actual total came out to around $73 for 7 items! I think that’s an amazing deal. Especially since my sister enjoyed every item she received…including the plain white tank. What can I say, a girl does love a good tank right?! And this one was stretchy and comfy for her to wear often.

As far as the shoes though, they were a bit small. We were able to exchange for a bigger size by simply putting them in the return envelope and sending them back off.

STITCH FIX KIDS

  1.  Love Glam Girl – Nini Twist Front Tee (size L)
    $16.00
  2.  FREE X Cotton On Graphic Tee (size 12)
    $14.00
  3. Love Glam Girl Fiona Graphic Tee (size L)
    $14.00
  4. Hippie Girl Selina Kit Denim Cuff Short (size 12)
    $22.00
  5. MIA Kids Jasmine Slide Sandal (size 1Y)
    $20.00
  6. Stella & Sienna Han Ruffle Hem Dress (size L)
    $24.00
  7. Crown of Hearts Thea Tie Waist Romper (size L)
    $24.00
  8. Crown of Hearts Bea Knit Legging (size L)
    $12.00
  9. Crown of Hearts Salina V Neck Waffle Top (size L)
    $16.00
  10. Joe’s Jeans Markie Denim Cut Off Short (size 12)
    $24.00

We kept everything in this box as well. The original total was $186, but the 25% Buy-All Discount and Styling Fee Discount brought the total down to $119.50. That’s a savings of $66.50!

We were amazed to see how many items came in the Stitch Fix Kids box. It was definitely more than what you get in the adult Stitch Fix box. With that said, this could be a negative if you don’t love everything in the box, because you would miss out the 25% buy all discount. But all in all, the prices for the items were pretty great as is anyway.

There was one slight issue with the quality of one of the items in this box. It was with the MIA Kids Jasmine Slide Sandal. Right off the bat when she tried these shoes on, you could sort of tell they may not be incredibly durable. She didn’t play in these and only wore them around the house, but after a walk down the stairs one of the straps broke off! We were pretty disappointed as we assumed a shoe like this would be made to last a lot longer, even with light use. So we emailed Stitch Fix to see if we could return them. Thankfully, they let you return “Fix” items even after you’ve checked out. They emailed us a pre-paid label to send them back. I appreciated this.

Winner: KidPik

Figuring out the winner for this round was a little difficult. Because Stitch Fix Kids offered more items to try, the savings came out to more. But, the KidPik box still costed less than Stitch Fix Kids. Also, even though the prices of the items for Stitch Fix Kids were still a great price, on average the price of the clothing items in KidPik were cheaper. Lastly, the only quality issue I had with both boxes were the shoes. Whereas KidPik was just a simple sizing problem, the shoes from Stitch Fix Kids actually broke within the 1st week of wear, which was a serious quality issue. Enough for KidPik to really take the win for this round.

ROUND 3
Overall Experience

Overall, both of these boxes were super fun for my sister and I to try. She was extremely excited to get her boxes and it was almost like playing dress up for her. This was her first experience having a box all to herself. Both KidPik and Stitch Fix Kids made her feel special with all the personal touches they both added as well. From putting her name on the shipping label, to the stylists writing a personal note to her. KidPik even added a cute little sticker to the inside of her box saying that this box was styled especially for her.

KIDPIK

Things I Liked:

  • Always free subscription, as you never pay for a styling fee or shipping. Just what you keep!
  • Price of items in the box.
  • Great discounts offered for 1st time subscribers.
  • 30% off discount on every box if you keep everything in it.
  • Option to donate items to a child in need and KidPik will match the donation.
  • Can have more than one kid profile on your account.
  • Includes both girls and boys clothing.
  • Every item coordinated with each other to make complete outfits.
  • Clothes were cute and trendy.
  • Accessories were included.

Things I Didn’t Like:

  • Nothing!

STITCH FIX

Things I Liked:

  • Ability to schedule your boxes whenever you want.
  • Many items to choose from and a good variety of styles.
  • A lot of the items coordinated with each other.
  • Great size range.
  • Includes girls and boys clothing.
  • Clothes were cute and trendy.

Things I Didn’t Like:

  • The quality issue of the shoes.
  • No accessories (for hair, sunglasses, etc.)

Winner: KidPik

I had no negatives for KidPik!

VERDICT
Worth It?

Overall, both of these boxes are great to try and definitely worth it. Heck, KidPik is totally free to try and you can’t beat that! We had a good experience and will be keeping both subscriptions moving forward.

KIDPIK

Would I try again: Yes

Bottom Line:  Great if you want coordinated outfits and to expand on your child’s current collection of clothing.

STITCH FIX KIDS

Would I try again:  Yes

Bottom Line:  Great if you want to try out tons of trendy brand name clothing pieces.

Overall Winner: KidPik

Loved the article. I preferred kid pik too. I have 5 kids and stitxh fix wont even let me put them all on one family account and they deleted my account for making more than one account. Their customer service was really rude about it and they offered me no option for having all my kids on one account. Like which kid should I have left out? Kid pik let me have 5 kids on my account and use my sign up discount on more than one kid. I’m not sure why stich fix limits that. I’m signing up each kid for what I hope is a lifetime subscription and they can’t give me a discount for that? If they were in a different family would be perfectly fine? That doesn’t seem too encouraging of a family unit or big families at all. Anyway kid pics tech people seem to have thought of these things where stitch fix was made aware of these problems and didn’t seem to care. Also I too found kid pick to be the same in quality if not better and also cheaper in price.
I just want to say though that your site is a stroke of brilliance and I love that you are doing it. Your little model is adorable too. Y’all are so cute. It’s great to see you having fun, doing what you love, and being successful! Get it girl!

Wow! That’s very unfortunate. You would think that Stitch Fix would want big families to sign up. I guess that’s why Kid Pik really edged out Stitch Fix when going toe to toe :). I’m so glad you enjoyed Kid Pik and my blog. I really appreciate your comment and taking the time out to connect with me! I really want to bring an honest opinion and review to readers so i’m so happy you found some value in it. And thanks, she is such a little diva and will love when I tell her about your comment! Have a happy holiday and I hope to see you back on the blog in the future.
